Victorian Young Bird State Champs. I had 26 birds selected for the Western team at selection. I knew our club didn't have a strong team and was not expecting too much with my birds selected.  What I thought were my best chances finished down the order. I placed 3rd in Hens Class with a Sky Cinnamon who won Cinnamon Class as a UBC and then placed 2nd in Spangle Normal Class. Its always a nervous wait seeing if the birds are good enough to make the Victorian team. This time I was lucky to get the Spangle in the team but my Cinnamon Hen missed out.

Nationals this year were in Penrith NSW. What a venue, catered for everyone and was by far the best Nationals ive been too. My spangle placed 2nd overall in a very strong class of Spangles.

Victorian Adult State Champs. Decided to steward for the first time in a while and was lucky to get a big class with Spangle Normals. First 3 birds picked themselves, thanks Greg Rowe. I had a great result coming 1st and 2nd in the Greys and 3rd in the Blues. The 2 Greys are pictured. Also a good result for Western club member Owen Haddick winning the Dominant Pied class.

Victorian UBC State Champs were held in Sept this year. A new venue which enhanced the show with a great Auditorium for Presentations. My 5th Shield was won with a Sky Cinnamon hen (Pictured), also placed 2nd in Opaline class 4th in Crests and 7th in Greens.

Going into our club pre-selection I knew I had a couple of good chances and was ecstatic when my Grey won Best bird at our selections. I got 15 birds in the Western team. At the Young Bird Shield I had some very good results. My Grey won the Grey Class (pictured), I got 4th in Dominant Pieds and Albino's and 6th in Spangles and Crest. My Grey and Albino were selected for the Victorian team.

Nationals - This year the Nationals were held in Mackay Qld. It was a great 4 days, good Accommodation and great company. My Grey finished 5th and my Albino placed 7th. Was over the moon with 2 top 10's in my 2nd year at Nats. Well done to NSW for taking out the show and to John Ennis for winning the Opaline AOSV Class.

Adult Shield - My club Western Suburbs had a very good team to take to the Adult Shield in 2017. We filled every class for the first time in quite a while. My best result was 3rd in the Crest Class. A few members of my club had outstanding days. Cookson & Avery won Violet, Dave Broughton won Opaline AOSV and Hedra Kamel won 3 classes in Hens, DF Spangle and Grey. We came 3rd which was outstanding.

Eastern Diploma Show - Was great to get to Eastern Diploma show as its traditionally one of the biggest shows on the BCV Calendar. Over 500 birds entered for the day, I was eager to enter a few young birds as I haven't shown as much as I would of liked this year. Was good to help out another club with stewarding and helped organise birds on the day. Stewarded with Ian Hunter who has a great knowledge of birds. Was so excited to win Open Section with my Grey that won the YB Shield.  It's always nice having a bird in the final judging and I was lucky enough to win my first Diploma. What a feeling!! You finally realise all the hard work that you put in has finally paid off and you get a little recognition. In this hobby you tend to have a few more downs than ups and I will never forget this day. Winning $200 cash was also awesome. Thanks to Eastern for a very well run show.

Geelong UBC Show - My first Best in show award winning with a Grey Green Spangle Normal. Geelong always run a great show and highly recommend breeders to enter birds at their shows with great prizes and an even better lunch.

Nationals - Hobart - My 3rd visit to the Nationals and this time I was a bit nervous as I had my first 2 birds represented. Even though they finished outside the Top 10 it was still a great thrill to have some birds there.

My good friend Don Rixon managed to win another Logie taking out the Grey class. Such a good feeling celebrating a win with your close mates. His acceptance was again a highlight of the weekend. Also spent a great day exploring Port Arthur with David Taylor, Wade Gaudion, Garry Gazzard and Mark and Rebecca Fellows.

BCV Young Bird Shield - Great day at the Annual BCV Young bird shield. Was lucky enough to win my first Young Bird Shield winning the Grey Class. Other notable results 4th in Crest class and 6th in Albino class. My Albino and Grey were lucky enough to go on and represent Victoria at the Nationals in Hobart. Crest bird was reserve. Was also a thrill winning a shield on the same day as my mate David Taylor who won the Spangle normal class.
